INSIDE-OUT: SPACES AND SIGNS
Inside-out is a group project that required us to create a signage and way-finding system for the Agriculture Building in AUB. Our first concern was functionality: how to provide the user with a pleasant experience of navigation despite the complexity of the building. In order to accomplish this, the essence of our design revolved around different user scenarios to establish one that would simultaneously maintain the spirit of the building while making the navigation experience simple and unique. We abstracted a tree as our informational panel, with each branch representing a section of the building; to better distinguish the wings, white acrylic was used for “A” and MDF wood for “B”. We also relied on a system of branches that applied to the entire family of signs where solid lines revealed what is in the wing whereas dashed lines indicated what is not. Hence, we were able to stay true to the landscape of the building while creating an inviting and accessible route for the visitor.
